Who Is Your Coach?

In every sport, there is a coach who guides the team. The coach develops the strategy, gives direction, and motivates the players to press forward even when the battle gets tough. Without a coach, the team may still play, but they lack leadership, vision, and discipline.

In the Christian life, the Holy Spirit is our Coach. Jesus promised this when He said:

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” – John 14:26

The rule book for this game of life is the Bible. Just as athletes must study their playbook, we too must study God’s Word. But here’s the key: without the Spirit’s help, the Bible may seem like words on a page. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us understanding and wisdom.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” – 1 Corinthians 2:14

Our Teammates

We are not in this battle alone. God has given us teammates: the holy angels who minister to us (Hebrews 1:14), and fellow believers who stand by our side, encouraging and lifting us up when we feel weak.

“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Together, we are called to press toward the goal. Like any team, unity is essential. A team divided cannot win; a believer divided in heart cannot stand.

The Battle and the Prize

Every day, there is a game to be played—a battle to be fought. The Apostle Paul compared it to a race and a contest for a prize:

“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

The prize in earthly sports may fade, but the prize of following our heavenly Coach is everlasting life. That crown of victory never perishes.

Who Will You Listen To?

Here’s the question: who is your coach? Every player must choose which voice they will follow. If we ignore the Holy Spirit, we forfeit the wisdom, power, and guidance that leads to victory. But if we listen to Him, He will lead us step by step to eternal triumph.

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” – Galatians 5:16

Life is not a scrimmage; it’s the real game. Every choice matters. Every day we must decide: which side will we fight on? There are only two sides—the kingdom of God or the kingdom of darkness.

So, who will be your coach? If you want victory, let the Holy Spirit lead you. If you long for the eternal crown, follow the strategy written in God’s Word.

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” – Galatians 5:25

Closing Thought:
Just like in sports, discipline, training, and listening to your coach determines the outcome. The difference is that in Christ, the victory is assured if we surrender to His guidance. The Spirit will never lead us astray, and the crown He promises is everlasting.
