“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
—Galatians 5:22–24 (KJV)

Devotional Reflection:

Every gardener knows that a thriving garden doesn’t appear overnight. It requires time, care, patience, and most of all—a connection to the source of life: sun, water, and rich soil. So it is with the spiritual life. The fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians is not a checklist of traits to manufacture through human effort—it is the natural produce of a heart rooted in Christ and cultivated by the Holy Spirit.

Love that seeks no reward.
Joy that dances even in sorrow.
Peace that stills the soul amid storms.
Patience that bears trials without complaint.
Gentleness that heals wounds.
Goodness that shines like light.
Faith that clings to God in the dark.
Meekness that rests in strength under control.
Temperance that chooses heaven over impulse.

These are not just virtues—they are evidences of a life surrendered to God.

Verse 24 reminds us that those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh. This isn’t a casual trimming of bad behavior—it is a decisive, daily death to self. The Spirit cannot bear fruit in a garden still choked by the weeds of pride, selfishness, and lust. As we yield ourselves, God uproots what is earthly so He may cultivate what is eternal.

Application Question:

Is there a part of your life where the works of the flesh are still taking root? Ask the Holy Spirit to gently reveal it—and help you surrender it. What fruit of the Spirit do you long to grow more deeply in?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I want to be known by the fruit Your Spirit bears in my life. Uproot what is unlike You, and plant within me love, joy, peace, and all that reflects the heart of Christ. May my life become a garden where others can taste and see that the Lord is good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
